Parenting: Making a Schedule

Making a schedule goes a step further than having a schedule.  Making a schedule is aimed at restoring enthusiasm and cooperation.  It’s written down.  It lets your child know that every day is not a willy-nilly festival where anything and everything can happen.  It also reassures your child that she can count on fun activities.

Around the time your child starts talking your ear off, you feel the tectonic shift of parenting start to happen: you go from caring for your child to keeping up with your child. Of course you’re still busy tending to your child’s basic needs.  You just have the added duty of keeping up with her.  If you are frequently asking yourself, ?Where is she getting all this energy?’— then it’s happening.  The duty of keeping up has arrived.

How To Understand Your Teenage Daughter?

One of the most daunting tasks in life experienced by a parent is to understand their teenage daughter. It is always tough to understand the behavioral aspects, feelings, wishes and requirements of an adolescent girl. However, there are certain common behavioral patterns that are observed in every teenage girl and can be a useful resource material to several needy parents.

Girls entering into adolescence often do not understand the nuances of the age. They often want to rush their entry into adulthood and experience the uninhabited freedom and pleasure suitable for adults. This is the starting point where hormones show their influence on the body. Adolescent girls are very obsessed with maintaining their physique and shape. With the objective of looking beautiful, they resort to different measures including dieting, exercises and uncharacteristic use of cosmetics.

Texas Cheerleading Lives - Unfortunately

Texas, as you may know, has some urban not-so-much-legends about cheerleading moms driven to mayhem by their sense of vicarious competition. From what I have seen and heard regarding cheerleading in Texas, there are some more widespread problems about which to be concerned.

The ten-year-old daughter of someone I know recently joined a cheerleading “squad” that competes with other squads across the region, and on up the cheerleading food chain. The gym that sponsors the squad has focused heavily on competitive cheerleading in recent years. “Their” girls always make it to Nationals, so parents beg, borrow and fundraise to obtain this cheerleading training, along with the required trips and paraphernalia, that keeps their daughters on the winning team. The child I mentioned is on a squad made up of first- through fifth-graders.
