Article Writing Tips - How To Get Them Read The Rest Of Your Articles
I often write about the importance of article title to grab readers attention to click and actually continue reading your article. What I failed to mention is that there is another thing that is as important than article title. What is it?
If you think about it, when people click through the title of the article to read the content, they have high expectation. If you article promises them how to quickly setup their new site, they may think they will be able to do it in 15 minutes. Others may expect differently but you can’t control their perception.
What they read vary, but most likely it is the first paragraph of the article. If your article contain numerical or bulleted list, their attention may draw to that list immediately. However, most will read at least the first sentence or paragraph.
This is where you need to really focus on capturing the readers’ attention to read the whole article. When people are interested in reading, they are more likely to read through until the end. This applies to relatively short articles.
What can you learn from this? Make the introduction paragraph interesting. Don’t start with dull and boring content. You may put the readers to sleep. Remember, the back button in the browser is just one click away.
I find it helpful if you actually reveal the core of the content they will find in that article. When you let the readers know, they will read if that information is of interest to them.
Another technique is to start with a story. People like to read stories. When you can do that well, you can really grab their attention for the rest of the article.
Finally, another method to make them read your article is by starting it with a question that directly address their problem. If you can prove that you actually understand their concern and situation, you will at least get several minutes of their attention.
